A bacteria divides into two in 20 minutes in a culture. if sufficient material and space is available the population will cover one billion in nearly eight hours. If the process is going on inside a closed system the multiplication process will be stopped and reversed after a certain time and in a lesser time the entire colony will perish in its own waste.
